So some of you that read this occasionally or follow me on twitter know that I hate chardonnay. My sweet and loving husband made me a tasty halibut and because he's all about the details, of course he had to have a bottle of white wine for me.
The bad news, he wanted me to drink it!
The good news, it was a bottle of of 9.99 Clos La Chance, perfect for my cheap wine reviews and he wanted a review which I would love to write.
First, back to the bad news, I had to drink the wine. I didn't do it the night I ate the fish. Or the next night. Or the night after that. Finally after I killed the delicious pinot, I cracked open the chardonnay.
It was not good. I couldn't get over it not being what I like to drink. Then I got a buzz. Then I was happy.
Take two. The following night, once I was over the shock and sadness I poured myself another glass and prepared myself to be fair and not a snobby asshole.
It was crisp and tasted like a pear not very oaky and less dry than most chardonnay. It would have paired very well with the halibut or other white fish. If you like white wine, I would venture to guess you'd enjoy this. I got a buzz and so I enjoyed it too, Don't take more than two nights to drink. The third night was not a good night, that night it was SUPER dry.
If I was forced to buy a bottle of chardonnay for something, like maybe a friend who only drinks white I have no such friends I would pick this.
I'm not a big chardonnay fan because of the dryness and all the oaky. But I've found once you have a buzz, any wine starts tasting delicious lol
ReplyDeleteLol, so true! The hubby got a recommendation that this was the least oaky of the low end wines. it want bad at,all once I got a buzz ;p
DeleteNow that's an endorsement and a half. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe Clos La Chance want to repay me in wine. Cabernet plz!
DeleteI like a pinot grigio better too. I think it's like the difference between a merlot and a pinot noir. I'm not a merlot fan. If that makes us snobby, then so be it. We likes what we likes, right? And you're so right; it gets better after the first bottle. lol
ReplyDeleteSo be it! ;)
Deletehahaha, I love this review. I used to hate all Chardonnay because I hate the "buttery, oaky" tastes that people associate with a "good" Chardonnay. BUT - if you can find one that is aged in steel barrels as opposed to oak barrels, guess what?? Much crisper, you can actually taste the fruit, and it's drinkable! Plus, you gotta let that shit breathe (our pour it through an aerator) - that's why you liked it on night 2 better than night 1. Never drink any bottle of wine after night 2 though. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou my friend have some great tips! The Aerator is on my amazon wish list... maybe for my birthday. if not when I get to goal I'll buy it for myself. Also usually I would kill the bottle on night two but stupid ww with their stupid points, one bottle is like 20pts so...
DeleteHow can you tell if it's aged in steel barrels? Does it say on the label? I've been living in non-wine-drinking countries for several years now so I'm out of touch with how to shop for it. :)
DeleteI don't like any wine that's "oaky." No chardonnay and no merlot for me. How did those two get so popular? Everyone I know who actually likes wine dislikes those. Anyway, I like a dry sauvignon blanc or a nice sweet riesling, especially the riesling paired with spicy food. Or champagne. As far as white wine goes, everything is better with champagne. :)
ReplyDeleteOops thought I hit reply. Reply below
DeleteI too love champagne. Spicy food with a sweet Riesling you say... I feel a new review coming on. truth time, I've never had Riesling, but that sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso, totally agree with your observation, I only know 1 person that likes Merlot. I didn't drink wine when that movie with Paul Giamani (sp?) came out, but that would totally be me now, "I'm not drinking ANY fucking Merlot!"
